Monthly Report On Community Happenings

Some of the items addressed at the Tamborine and Districts Citizens Association Inc’s monthly meeting for August were:

Business Report:

TDCA Inc Markets – for the August Market, featuring a dozen interesting stalls and many visitors, members of the committee looked after the teas and coffees, due to the coffee lady being away, whilst tending to the yummy sausage sizzle! Looking forward to the next Tamborine Community Country Market on 18 September!

Sound System – an application for a Community Grant for a sound system to assist with local events has been made.

Tamborine Car Show – this month will see Tamborine’s Second Car Show take place. Busy preparations including gathering of raffle prizes and sponsorship from local businesses are well underway with many vehicles being registered. If you would like to be included as a sponsor or raffle prize donor, please contact Syd on 0427 452 261 or email tdca.inc@gmail.com.

Tanks In Tamborine – guest Tim Wood from Tank Ride (shut down in Logan City Council shire last December) sought suggestions and ideas on the prospect of moving the Tank and Military Collection (featuring world renowned display of 25 tanks and hundreds of military memorabilia items – second biggest collection in the world!) to another location requiring a large secured under cover area to look at the possibility of keeping the tourist attraction in Tamborine as a major drawcard with a point of difference to the local area.

Councillor’s Report:

Mundoolun-Connection Road – a Main Roads Representative has been contacted for an application through ‘Safer Roads Sooner’ funding to upgrade the intersection in order to address the obstructive view when turning right where distance is unable to be easily judged with trucks and other vehicle travelling at high speeds coming over the rise.

Skate Park – drawings for Stage 2 (as of Nov 2007) were presented to the members and guests to request additional funding in the Council Budget for Sport for the Skate Park.

Meetings are held every month (except January) on second Monday at 7pm @ the Tamborine Memorial Hall, Tamborine “Come along and have your say about any issues, concerns, or suggestions you may have for the local community!”
