Big Birdy To The Pandemic!

Bandemic Music Programme @ The Dragon …

Big Birdy to the Pandemic as Scenic Rim venue Bearded Dragon Hotel announces more Australian Live Bands for the Bandemic Music Event programme!

It’s now 2022 and muso’s, venues and most of all music lovers have missed out on more than enough Band nights than you can stick a thermometer at, so let’s all rally and make up for it with the next round of Bandemic Live Music – Paddock Party with Live Music.

As a music Pandemic spreads through the local Tamborine area, smack bang in the heart of the Scenic Rim, a magic place to get creative is emerging. Just on the doorstep of Brisbane & the Gold Coast for those who feel like some country fresh air. We are ready. We are prepared. We are high on sanitiser, our hearts are full of hope and we want our ears full of great Australian Independent music, because we have earned it and these artists need as much support as we can throw at them!

Tamborine’s favourite Pub in the paddock and music local, Bearded Dragon Hotel is ready for Round 2 of Bandemic Live Music and is bringing the Gold Coast Hinterland to life again and support local bands through a series of events to finish off 2022, fittingly called ‘Bandemic’ because well 2020 happened, didn’t it. Picture this – an array of emerging SE QLD Bands and Australian touring musicians bringing the good times to Tamborine’, somewhere they might never have played before to people who may have never got the chance to hear something like that before. No longer will Scenic Rim and Logan residents have to travel to the Gold Coast & Brisbane or as far as the Sunshine coast to see awesome new acts! Best of all its Free Entry and all ages event with adult supervision of course!

Let’s get the party started Saturday August 13th with Cheap Date possessing a strong handle on emotional nuance and a varied blend of musical influences, Cheap Date have been making quite a name for themselves on stages across Australia!

Their first single ‘Beside Me’ kicked the story off, following the story of teenage heartbreak and the push and pull of emotion.

Bursting into the Brisbane music scene with thrilling energy and emotive tunes, an unequalled bunch of prodigious, almost 20-year old musos, with an unyielding appetite for extraordinary originals and memorable melodies. Led by artist Lara Dee and backed by 4 incredible musicians, they are working the sounds of 90’s pop rock into the beloved indie genre. Expect nothing short of an emotional rollercoaster and lyrical euphoria throughout, and a yearning for more, at the end of their performances. Supported by “Subject to Change” often described as “way too loud” Subject to Change are a 3 piece alternative rock band made of housemates and old high school friends who didn’t think they’d spent enough time with each other so started a band. Being fans of artists like The Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes and The Vanns, Subject to Change try to cover a lot of musical territory while still maintaining a punchy blend of wordy lyrics and alternative rock melodies.

Sunday August 14th we see Carmody Road Straight out of Brisbane, a young and energetic local band who has performed at countless events and venues including Lefty’s Music Hall, the Valley Fiesta, local Brisbane bars and probably your Aunty’s 50th. Carmody Road jams pop, jazz and reggae into their indie-rock repertoire guaranteed to be the soundtrack to your late night boogie. Support act Jacob Fitzgerald and his trademark eye-twinkling charm and irresistible indie-pop/rock exuberance, Melbourne’s Jacob Fitzgerald hooked listeners with his debut single ‘Adore Ya’ in early 2018. Obtaining a loyal fanbase on the back of his first release, Jacob followed up with likeminded tracks on his debut EP, ‘Whole & Broken’.

This year has seen Fitzgerald and his band explore a new trajectory with bold, bright and beaming pop-infused indie rock, leading to the release of ‘Pretty Good for My Mind’ and ‘Lonely’ and the release of his new EP ‘Pretend I’m Cool’ (out November 19).

Saturday 3rd September Father’s Day warm up gig with The Verandahs who are, in a very particular order: Karl Priebe (vocals, acoustic guitar; born Toowoomba, QLD), Harry Lee (drums, percussion; born Wahroonga, NSW), Baxter Barnham (bass; born Melbourne, VIC) and Fiona Maher (Brisbane, QLD).

Initially a Paul Kelly covers band, the band then read his autobiography, which was unfortunately very boring. The Verandahs now write their own music and in 2019 sold out two shows in the attic of the sprawling Spring Hill home that Karl and Harry were renting. Their music has been described by neighbours as “quite loud when the windows are open” and by Paul Kelly’s lawyers as “sounding a lot like Paul Kelly”. And, yes – we play parties! Act And don’t miss the support act for Saturuday 3rd if you’re looking to get lured in by catchy chorus’ and toe-tapping tunes only to have your heart broken by sweet and melancholic lyrics, then Indigo Hue is the gal for you. The once Melbourne-based, now Brisbane-situated Artist has blossomed into the scene. Playing at venues such as The Brightside, Tomcat and having recently come off the QLD leg of the Bakers Eddy ‘Love Boredom Bicycle’ tour, Indigo Hue is slowly making a name for herself as one of Brisbane’s cheekiest indie-rockers. Her debut single ‘Romantic Overthinker’ captures what it’s like to be completely in love with someone who just couldn’t give two shits, all while being a groovy tune to have a boogie to. She brings unwavering confidence to each performance and her cheek and humour enable her to light up every stage she walks onto. Indigo Hue holds every audience she meets and takes them on a journey through the ups, downs, loves and heartbreaks, of being in your early 20’s.

Entry is Free but we urge you to invite your friends to support the artists who will also be peddling their exclusive merch and pay as you can at the door, purchase some raffle tickets for super cool memorabilia to help continue funding this ongoing Bandemic events!
