Planting Trees @ The Creek

A Collaborative National Tree Planting Day

An exciting new project was launched on National Tree Planting Day at the end of July. Over 200 native trees were planted at Cedar Creek State School with a collaboration between Albert Valley Wilderness Society, Cedar Creek State School, Yarrabilba State Secondary College and Wildcare. The project
in a few years will provide food for injured species like koalas, possums and gliders. The food forest will be kept at a 2m height to allow for fodder collection from the wildlife carers.

The forest is the beginning of a developing program to support schools and business to grow their own small food forest or hold a workshop to learn how to create wildlife friendly environments. The goal is to create a nature network throughout the Logan area. With koalas listed as vulnerable in Qld and under review to be possibly upgraded to endangered we hope that projects like these are able to create awareness.
