Dog Guides? Try Alpaca Guiding!

Forward Steps Mobility Visits Alpaca Farm …

Forward Steps Mobility clients put aside mobility aids, such as canes and a dog guide, for an Alpaca Experiential Walk at local Mountview Alpaca Farm

We first met Hailey at a Tamborine Village Lions Club meeting:
Forward Steps Mobility (FMS) is an independent NDIS Service Provider, providing Orientation and Mobility Services, as well as social and recreational outings. We provide services to individuals who are blind or have low vision, based in the Gold Coast Region. Our focus is to equip and empower clients to embrace the freedom of independence, and experience intentional heart centered connections through regular social and recreational community outings.
FSM creates opportunities for clients to engage in a variety of activities, promoting and demonstrating ways in which they can be free to express their strength of orientation and mobility, as well as connect socially with others. Coupled with this, we have a heart for community and love supporting and blessing local businesses.

Recently, Forward Steps Mobility had the amazing opportunity to visit the beautiful Mountview Alpaca Farm in Canungra. FSM clients participated in an Alpaca experiential walk. Putting mobility aids aside, such as canes and 1 Dog Guide being minded, we thought we would try alpaca guiding!
Our interactions with 6 cute well-behaved alpacas were very enjoyable. Everyone walked an alpaca on led freely in wide open flat terrain. This made it safe to move about. This gave a fun way of using their orientation and mobility skills. The alpacas eagerly followed the bags of food in hand, with each one happily walking or simply receiving pats.

After the experiential walk, we explored the shop and purchased some items. The generosity of the staff at the Alpaca Farm made our outing a most memorable experience!
Thank you, Jennie and staff, for the amazing work you do!
