Cr Jeff McConnell – Division 2
These are my own personal views. I do not purport to speak on behalf of Council.
You will have all heard by now that Div 1 Councillor Derek Swanborough has financed his own household ‘plebiscite’ to see if residents on the Mountain wish to move to the Gold Coast. This vote is only one per household and not every resident.
TAMBORINE MEMORIAL HALL
Work is nearing completion of the new playground and it looks like a marked improvement for the kids to play on. The Hall committee has been busy and are now working on spending the $53,000 Bushfire Recovery Project Grant money on the Hall with a new roof paint, interior paint, new LED lights throughout and new fridges. This money was granted to improve the hall to enable its use as an evacuation centre.
It is great to see Main Roads focusing on the Beaudesert-Beenleigh Rd with a lot of road edge clearing to make it safer as well as works still going on closer to Beaudesert. I wall called by Ryan about late night wood chipping near Boomerang Rd and after talking with Main Roads staff they decided to not continue at night.
I had a meeting with Main Roads Regional Manager at the Goat Track last week where we were given a tour of the site and over 13,000 tonnes of rock and rubble has been removed off the cliff face. There is still a lot of restoration work to be completed, so not opening any time soon, I’m afraid.
I have passed on to our Road Works manager the need for some urgent works to fix the parking and drainage issues that are outside the Hardware and medical centre on Leach Rd. This has been a long-term problem that I am hoping to get fixed within the next two years.
