Boosting Community Morale

Surprise Visit At August Markets

At our August Markets held on 4 August we had a surprise visit from Lions District Governor Ian Brunning, who spent some time with our members, spent money at the various stalls, and inspected our clubhouse ‘Lions Den’ and facilities.

Broadwater Flood Victims – $2,000 Donation

The town of Broadwater in Northern NSW is still badly affected by the March floods with most of the town of over 400 people still virtually camping in badly damaged houses or caravans.

Broadwater is part of our Lions District and so Tamborine Village Lions donated $2,000 in the form of supermarket vouchers to the people of the town.

The Broadwater community hub has done a marvellous job of caring for the townspeople by way of a ‘pantry’ of free food and providing hot meal nights where those who have cooking facilities are able to provide a hot meal in a ‘dinner night’ format to both improve morale and provide for those in need. These are held in the community hall which, though inundated, is in the process of being restored, with new kitchens and a lot of cleaning required.

Dinner Meeting

Every month the Lions Club has a social night for its members and guests. In August the meeting was in the form of ‘pot luck’ with members bringing a dish to share. This was held at the “Lions Den” and a great occasion to catch up.

Recycling

Don’t forget to come to the monthly Markets to usefully dispose of your old spectacles and sunglasses at the Lions Stall. These will be reconditioned and sent to needy communities in both Australia and overseas.

We can also recycle used household batteries and your empty cans and bottles.

Our monthly markets are held on the first Sunday of each month 7.00am to 12.00pm.

Stall bookings and enquiries can be made on 0487 774 114.

We are very grateful for the support of the community who have helped over the years. If anyone would like to join us, membership enquiries can be made of Phil on 0411 708 234 or by email on tamborinevillage.qld@lions.org.au
