Tamborine Village Lions Club News for June 2022

Consistent Rain Made For A Quieter Month!

With May being so wet a number of catering events planned for Tamborine Village Lions Club were cancelled including the RCTB Trail Bike Rides and a 2-Day TEG Horse Event. So Lions members had a reasonably quiet month after our May Monthly Markets.

Election Day Democracy Sausage

A wet day did not deter voters and others at the Tamborine Memorial Hall Precinct on Election Day. A small Lions team was in action cooking up a storm, and even had to raid the freezer and do an extra shopping run for supplies, to keep up with the demand for their hot Democracy Sausages.  When demand finally dropped off around 3pm the team was able to turn off the BBQ, pack up, clean up and call it a day.Well done, Lions!

All funds raised from this event will go back to the community.  Some funds are distributed during the year as local events, such as this year’s flooding, occur. The remainder of our funds are allocated to community causes in bulk each year. No funds are used for the running of club which is all financed by members.

Childhood Cancer

The June Tamborine Village Markets will be our annual fundraising event for the Lions Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. Since 1996 Lions Australia has contributed over $12 million to childhood cancer research. These funds are donated to the best scientific and clinical childhood cancer research conducted right across Australia.

New Members

Tamborine Village Lions recently welcomed two new members into our club at our monthly dinner meeting held at Café 63 at Yarrabilba. David and Narelle have already shown themselves to be a valuable addition to club, helping out at the election day BBQ.

Lions Recycle for Sight

Don’t forget to come to the monthly Markets to usefully dispose of your old spectacles and sunglasses at the Lions Stall at our monthly markets on the first Sunday of each month. These will be reconditioned and sent to needy communities in both Australia and overseas.

We can also recycle used household batteries and your empty cans and bottles.
